Vejen Denmark

Added by: Dominic Harris

It was indeed a great honour to be invited as a judge to what can only described as one of the major dog fests of the year at Vejen.
As judges are well used to when visiting Denmark, everything went like clockwork over the four days of international shows so a big congratulation to all concerned. Also many thanks to the Danish Kennel Club for the hospitality afforded to my wife Noreen and I.
Right through the four days I was well impressed with the quality and the fact that the entries were from most parts of Europe some making the trip from as far afield as Russia.
The climax for me was doing Best Veteran and Best in show on the final day.
The best Veteran was judged in glorious sunshine. Having prejudged the entries I selected the Australian Shepherd, Papillon, Scotch terrier and the Siberian Husky for the top four places.
A final move of each and I was ready to place them in order.
First was the Scottie Etiquette Extra Hot n’Spicy beautiful lean head, keen expressiongood neck and shoulders and still moving true, owner L. Kraegpoth
Second was the Australian Shepherd Halfmoon Full Of It, a blue merle of correct proportions, good coat and steady on the move. Owner Siegstad and Kurtis
Third the Papillon Leonardo Shass in good coat, nice outline, excellent head and covering the ground well on the move.
Fourth Siberian Husky Taymyrs Special Effect, of nice proportion. Pleasing topline on the move

Then on to the Best in Show where unfortunately we had a change of weather. May I say thanks to the group Judges, I appreciated the quality of all of the winners many of them would have been worthy of the top spot, in the end it came down to personal choice.
1st The Saluki Quirmizi Global Temptress,Good long head, dark eye, beautiful out line, showing both reach and drive on the move. Owner I. Solberg(Sweden)
2nd The Welsh Terrier Nagant From Michel. Good head, nice beady eye, moving well. Owner Pmj Krautschead (Netherlands)
3rd The Hungarian Puli Bubbleton Birthday Bijou. Good head, nice topline in full coat typical short steps. Owner J.Ravin and K.Anderson
4th THE Bernese Mountain Dog Pa-Di Sinclair’s Eternity. Of good size excellent markings good bone steady on the move
